ABOUT
Chengannur (Malayalam: ചെങ്ങന്നൂർ) is a developing municipal town in the Alappuzha district of the state of Kerala in South India. Chengannur (also spelled Chenganoor, Chenganur, and Chengannoor) is located in the extreme eastern part of Alappuzha district, on the banks of Pamba River. It is 117 kilometers (73 mi) north of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram on the MC Road. Chengannur, Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam. Chengannur is connected to Kollam and Kottayam by NH 220. Chengannur is noted for Chengannur Mahadeva Temple and its Old Syrian Church. Chengannur is also a major destination of Sabarimala pilgrims known as the Gateway of Sabarimala.
CHENGANNUR
Chengannur means land (ur) of the red (Chenga) soil. This soil is different from the soil of surrounding Kuttanad, hence the name "Chengannur".
In early modern period, Chengannur was a part of Kayamkulam dynasty and which is later came under Travancore kings when Kayamkulam was ceded by Marthandavarma in 18th Century.

Pandavanpara
Pandavanpara, one of the most popular destinations in the South Indian state of Kerala, is believed to be the hiding spot of Pandavas, of the Mahabharata fame, and thus holds great religious significance for Hindus.
There are several interesting rock structures here, which are not only visually delightful, but also hold great historical, spiritual and architectural significance. There is also a very famous temple in Pandavanpara, the residing deity being Lord Krishna.
Chengannur mahadeva Temple
This is a famous temple of lord Shiva situated in the Chengannur town. This temple is well known for its architectural excellence in the whole of Kerala. It is located on the banks of Pamba River. There are nearly 28 idols of various deities in the courtyard of Sri Mahadeva Temple. The chief idols are of lord Shiva and Parvathi. The temple has beautiful rock carvings.
“Edakkadavu Tourism (A Hidden Gem)”
Pampa, one of the longest rivers in Kerala, is considered as a 'holy-river'. A new experiment related to tourism, is going on the banks of Pampa river and it is named as "Edakkadavu Tourism".
Edakkadavu tourist site is located in 'Chengannur' taluk and 6 km from Chengannur town and 5 km from the famous 'Parumala Church'. A small and cute park is arranged on the banks of Pampa river and it is marvellous. 10 rupees is the entrance ticket rate and one can spend as much time he/she wish. It is 'children' who really enjoy this place. A small counter is arranged for ice-creams and snacks. In the evening time local food will be available from "thattukada".
